My name is Casey Doran-Payne, I am 18 years old,i am an Emergency Medical Technician with remote medical training and experience.
I recently went to Nepal where i volunteered in a remote medical clininc,providing care to some of the poorest people in Nepal and maybe even the world.
I loved it! never have i felt so fulfilled and satisfied anywhere,there were a few moments which weren’t nice…
We had a child come in for an eye infection but as soon as i saw her i knew that something else was wrong,i could hear the gurgling from her chest before i even held her.
She had a chest infection which after being left for 10 days untreated had developed into pneumonia/chest infection.
I tried everything i could using what i had and what i had wasn’t enough! I didn’t have the equipment or medicine i needed to treat that beautiful little girl.
Luckily i was able to improvise and improve her breathing using an adult nebuliser and eventually she got better.
But i never want to have to rely on luck again!
